Screamer Of The Week: TAWINGS

(scroll down to skip right to the music) TAWINGS are a three-woman Tokyo-based post-punk/new wave trio founded in 2016 who’s members are: (left to right) Cony Plankton (vocals, guitar), elly (bass) and Yurika (drums).

They have an amazing original yet recognizable sound influenced by 80s groups like The B52s, Souxie and The Banshees, Pulsallama, The Psychedelic Furs, New Order, Berlin, Missing Persons The Cure, and Joy Division and sing almost entirely in English.

After the domestic releases of the double singles “Listerine/Dad Cry” in 2017 and “Invisible/UTM” in 2018, they dropped their debut album “Tawings” in November 2019 at a wildly successful launch event in Shibuya, Tokyo that featured a guest appearance by Cibo Matto’s Miho Hatori.

Tawings have played as a support act on the Japanese tours of The Lemon Twigs, Hinds and Japanese Breakfast, and played their debit show in the USA at SXSW in 2018.
